Permanent Residency for International Student
There are few visa options for Overseas Students in Australia who finishes their studies and want to apply under the General Skilled Migration program. These visas include options for skilled people applying as an independent migrant as well as those sponsored by a relative or nominated by a State or Territory governments.

Skilled Regional Sponsored (Provisional) visa (Subclass 487)
If you are an overseas student and have completed your studies in Australia and you are a holder of certain temporary visa, but you are unable to meet the criteria for a permanent skilled visa then you can apply for this Skilled Regional Sponsored (Provisional) visa. This visa is a three (3) years provisional visa and you will have the opportunity to apply for permanent residency after you have lived for two (2) years and worked for at least 12 months in the Specified Regional Area of Australia. Skilled Graduate (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 485)
If you are overseas student and unable to meet the criteria for a permanent General Skilled Migration visa then you can apply for this Skilled Graduate Skilled (Temporary) visa which will allow you to remain in Australia for 18 months. As a holder of this visa, you can gain skilled work experience or improve your English language skills and may apply for permanent residence at any time if you are able to meet the passmark on the General Skilled Migration points test.
