Permanent Residency for International Student
Skilled Sponsored (Residence) visa (Subclass 886)
If you are an overseas student and have completed your studies in Australia and you are a holder of certain temporary visa, then you can apply for permanent residency in Australia .
You must be sponsored by an eligible relative living in Australia or obtain nomination from a participating State or Territory government agency. If you are in Australia and you are an overseas student or former overseas student or a holder of a Skilled – Graduate (subclass 485) visa or Skilled – Recognised Graduate (subclass 476) visa or a holder of a Trade Skills Training (subclass 471) visa, then this visa is for you
After you become a permanent resident, you can study, work in any job and live in Australia permanently. You will be eligible to receive subsidised healthcare through Medicare and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) and you may be eligible to become an Australian Citizen when you meet the required Citizenship Criteria.
Currently Pass mark for this visa is 100 points. If you score less than 100 points, your application will be refused. . These Points are calculated against your Age, English language ability, nominated Skilled Occupation, Work Experience, Partner Skills and Other categories.
| Age: | Must be between 18 and 45 years |
| English Language Ability: | Must be Competent English or Vocational English (if nominated Occupation is Tradepersons) |
| Skill Assessment: | Must nominate an Occupation from Skilled Occupation List (SOL) and must obtain a positive skills assessment from the appropriate Skill Assessing Authority |
| Work Experience: | Will be awarded points if you have been employed for three (3) of the last four (4) years in an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) |
| Two (2) Years Study in Australia | Must have met this eligibility requirement in the six (6) months immediately before the date of making your application. You must have completed your qualification in no less than 16 calendar months to meet this requirement. |
| Sponsorship | Must be sponsored by an eligible relative living in Australia or nominated by a participating State or Territory government. |
| Others | If your Nominated Occupation is in Demand you can have some extra points. If you are employed in your nominated occupation, or a closely related occupation in Australia for at least one (1) year in the past four (4) years immediately before the day of your application, you can have extra points as well. |
